MAJ Isabel Geiger served as the commander of a headquarters and headquarters detachment (HHD) of the 181st Transportation Battalion in the 16th Corps Support Group (CSG) during 2003 and 2004 in Balad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In this October 2009 interview, MAJ Geiger discusses the challenges of setting up a convoy support center (CSC) in an austere area with limited supplies and no combat capability, the rush to up-armor vehicles with workarounds for the lack of equipment, and the quick change from a relatively safe environment to one where attacks were occurring nearly daily. MAJ Geiger concludes the interview with the observation " I'm always impressed with the National Guard guys who I think possess a different skillset through their civilian jobs. They're able to see a problem and quickly fix it."
