An April 2009 visit of Secretary Gates and Gen. Dempsey to Ft Rucker resulted in Department of Defense committment of $310 million dollars to USAACE, which has been used for construction of maintenance facilities and additional classrooms, increased number of instructor pilots, flight hours and available training aircraft. Backlog for advanced aircraft training has also been reduced.
