During the first year after the Secretary of the Army approved Army Aviation as a branch on 13 April 1983, MG Bobby J. Maddox, Commanding General of the Army Aviation Center and Fort Rucker, began a newsletter (Aviation Branch Update), to "appraise key personnel of the status of the Aviation Branch." His successor, MG Ellis D. Parker, continued the Updates through 1985 and 1986.
