Dr. Jim Williams, Aviation Branch historian, presents the story of Lam Son 719, an ultimately effective but extremely costly air assault operation planned to disrupt North Vietnamese supply lines. He surveys the major political and military events leading up to Lam Son 719, the operation itself, the cost of the operation in lives and equipment lost, changes in tactics and equipment as a result of lessons learned from Lam Son 719, and the overall importance of the operation to all Army Aviators. Video clips from interviews with three veterans --Col. John A. G. Klose, Col. Richard Johnson, and CWO Harold Smith--offer riveting testimony of the heroism of the Army Aviators who flew into the bloody inferno of Lam Son 719.
