Roy Urquhart had a distinguished military life. He was a man whose integrity, professionalism and deep humanity inspired confidence in his men and his superiors. His military career has many different phases. He served in the desert campaign, Sicily and Italy, and later as General Officer Commanding Malaya. Arnheim was just a brief eposde in his very active life. Urquhart's objective in operation Market Garden was to secure the vital bridge over the Rhine at Arnhem.
