Low-intensity warfare poses important problems for American interest and policy. And yet, because of the lack of understanding of low-intensity conflict, the United States is ill prepared to face its consequences. This book is a serious effort to make low-intensity conflict more understandable. Only when the United States has developed a flexible capacity to deal with the root causes of conflicts around the world can we better secure our own interest. This volume examines doctrines, strategies, and force structures that have been employed to answer the challenge of low-intensity conflicts and draws some consideration for US policymakers.
