The Battle of Brandy Station in Virginia on June 9, 1863, was the zenith of American cavalry action. Never again would horsemen play such an important role in combat as they did that summer day when Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart's forces met the cavalrymen of Union Commander Alfred Pleasonton.
