For the men who fought, bled and died in them they are not small - those little pieces of war - and the personal aftermath and their effect is beyond measure...I learned that these 'What now, Lieutenant?' moments were not singular and not found just in the military. They are representative of moments experenced at all ranks and positions both within the military and the civilian world. Whether a lieutenant or general, college president of company CEO, these moments, though not as traumatic as some, will happen and cause you to call upon your education, experience, training, common sense and judgment to respond appropriately. That phrase...that question with all it entails and how one responds when it's asked of them...seemed to fit best as a title for what you're reading now. -- Adapted from the preface.
