Spurred by memories of their father's tales of World War II, Myra, Ken, Del, Marshall and Lynette Miller decided to head to Europe to try and retrace their father?s war time experience. They realized that many participants had stories to tell, and this book was born. It includes anecdotes from soldiers and family members from Myron Miller's own 83rd, K/311th, Thunderbolt Division, as well tales from other Pulaski County, Missouri participants. There are stories from former Missouri legislator, Bill L. Ransdall about his father, and the experiences of Dixon-born baseball player Morris W. (Lefty) Martin. Stories about Maxine Boggs who took up factory work, and Brigitte Bresser who survived a Japanese Internment camp in Indonesia. From Europe to Africa, from the Pacific Theater to the home front, from those who returned with injuries, external and internal, to those who didn't return at all, Soldiers' stories is a composite of what it meant to serve during the Second World War; it is the shared experience of a generation.
