While the police had leads, there was not enough evidence to pursue the case, and it was dropped. It was not until 10 years later that the murderer was finally convicted. The tortured truth: the next episode examines the disturbing case of Joe Clark, a troubled youth with a penchant for torture. In 1995, he abducted 13-year-old Thad Philips, took him home, and broke his ankles, legs, and knees. But after 43 hours, he made the mistake of leaving Thad alone, and the injured boy was able to call the police, who then connected Clark to a murder a year earlier.
