On St. George's Day 1918 a small force of sailors and marines set out to block Germany's U-Boat campaign by raids on Zeebrugge and Ostend. Their exploits were among the most heroic on Britain's naval history, and they won more awards for gallantry than most Army corps had received in four long years of war. Yet the raids remained of questionable significance.
