On the evening of Jan. 30, 1945, thousands of German refugees, including wounded solders, women and children, fled the Russian advance on Prussia aboard the German Luxury Liner, Wilhelm Gustloff. Nine hours later, three Russian torpedoes hit the ship causing it to sink in less than an hour. All but 996 of the passengers died in the freezing waters of the Baltic Sea. Experts use 21st century technology to reconstruct the disaster, and to figure out exactly how many people perished in the worst maritime disaster in history.Includes personal narratives by five survivors.
