A report of achievements is presented, encompassing the major areas of fundamental and applied research and feasibility studies necessary to provide fundamental information on the design of respiratory protection systems for the individual soldier. Progress has been made in the determination of clothing and equipment compatibility requirements of a protective device, the investigation of pressure drop characteristics of protective masks and components (valves, filters, etc.), evaluation of instrumentation and experimental techniques for respiratory burden, anthropometric clearance envelopes, development of optically-clear elastomers for protective device fabrication, and the analysis of thermal parameters.
