Despite the devastation and political upheavel in Lebanon after the 2006 invasion by Israel, the Beirut Marathon Association chose to hold their November race. However, 5 days before the event a government minister was assassinated. The country went into 3 days of mourning and after much deliberation the Association decided to go ahead with the marathon. Here is the story of the chaos and rewards of keeping the annual marathon alive in the face of incredible odds.
