As the reputation of the Alexandreian Greek poet C.P. Cavafy (1863-1933) has grown, so the need for a scholarly edition of his work has become more imperative. This volume is the first complete translation of Cavafy's poetry. It contains 174 poems, taken from the most reliable Greek version available, in an English translation faithful to Cavafy's natural, idiomatic use of language and designed to preserve the immediacy of his commitment to Hellenism, his astute political cynicism, and his frank treatment of homosexual themes.
