Volodya Sharapov, a young officer, returns to Moscow after the end of World War II to work with the Moscow Criminal Police. There he meets Gleb Zheglov, chief of a squad which fights organized crime. Their task is to track down the Black Cat gang which terrorizes the city and also the murderer of a doctor's wife.
