Tarawa is one of the few Pacific battlefields that has remained essentially unchanged for the half century that followed WW II. Visitors to Betio Battlefield can readily see wrecked American tanks & LTVs along the beaches, as well as the ruins of Japanese gun emplacements & pill boxes.
