This is the yearbook of the 49th Armored Division, a Texas National Guard unit serving in federal service in the U.S. Army during the Berlin crisis 1961-1961. Major General Harley B. West, commanding general wrote, "This yearbook is largely a record of our active military service during 1961-62, None of us can yet know the full impact of that service on world affairs. The Berlin Crisis, threatening to erupt in war, caused the mobilzation of our Division. The crisis remains. But an uneasy peace still prevails." The Division trained for ten months but was never deployed overseas. The book contains history of the Division, and history of various parts of the Division, along with portraits of individuals from the command staff to privates, along with photographs and captions of people and activities.
