"The Chemische Werke Huls synthetic rubber plant was surveyed for the purpose of determining the results of strategic bombing on a synthetic rubber plant, so that an evaluation could be made of the proper use of weapons against similar production units. In addition, one of the principal purposes of this study was to determine the degree of recuperability from air raid attacks that this plant was able to accomplish. The Chemische Werke Huls is located in the village of Huls approximately two miles northeast of the town of Marl, Germany. Essen is 16 miles southwest of Huls. The plant is controlled by the I.G. Farbenindustrie and was primarily designed for the production of Buna-S type synthetic rubber; it is the second largest Buna plant in Germany"--Page 1
