Health care continued to be a major quality of life issue for Army service members and their families stationed in Europe. Distance, staffing, deployments, and budgets often limit access to military health care. Military treatment facilities (MTFs) often had to refer patients to German health care providers due to access shortages. Active duty (AD) patient care was paid for through MTF budgets and cost over five million in fiscal year 1999 (FY99). This study provides a retrospective, descriptive analysis of the FY99 AD claims data for the United States Army Medical Department Activity in Wuerzburg, Germany (USAMW).
