"This manual contains an introduction to the PERSHING 1a (P1a_ Field Artillery Missile System. The level of information is directed toward personnel requiring a general knowledge of the system. The material represents the latest information available on theory of operation, missile and ground support equipment, tactical concept, and logistic support of the system. The information is presented in generalized discussions, using simplified explanations where possible. Included is a description of the system, its tactical use, operational capabilities, methods of transportation, operational deployment, target categories, and assignment of fire missions. Information includes typical organization of the PERSHING battalion and use of the system in the quick reaction alert (QRA) and general support roles. Information on nontactical training devices, maintenance, and logistics of the system is also presented."
