"At the request of the Office, Chief of Ordnance, one Soviet 76MM HE Shell captured in the Korean theatre of operations was forwarded to this Arsenal by Picatinny Arsenal for metallurgical examination. The shell was identified as follows: 76MM HE Shell, Mod. Unidentified, (Soviet, FMAM 2271. The shell was received in the inert condition with the fuze adapter, booster cup, and detonator attached. The results of the complete round examination are contained in Frankford Arsenal Ordnance Laboratory Report No. MR-477 and Picatinny Arsenal Technical Report No. 1842. The subject shell and its components were photographed after which a dimensioned drawing was prepared. A longitudinal slice cut through the center of the shell was hot acid etched after a hardness survey was conducted. Specimens were obtained for microscopic examination, chemical analysis, and mechanical tests from the shell body. Hardness tests, microscopic examination, and chemical analyses were performed on the fuze train components where possible.".
