"At the request of the Office, Chief of Ordnance, an inert round of Soviet 120MM HE mortar ammunition, Mod. OF-843A, FMAM 1829, was submitted to this Arsenal by Picatinny Arsenal for a metallurgical examination. Additional testing and fragmentation studies were conducted by Picatinny Arsenal and Aberdeen Proving Ground. Following a visual examination and measurement of dimensions for incorporation in a drawing ... specimens were obtained from the shell body and components for hardness surveys, chemical analyses, microscopic examination, and macroetching. Specimens for Charpy impact and tension tests were machined from the shell body. Because of section size limitations these latter tests were not conducted for the remaining shell components."--Leaf 1.
