"At the request of the Office, Chief of Ordnance, one Soviet 76MM HE Shell, Mod. 0-353, FMAM 2265, captured in the Korean theatre of operations was submitted to this Arsenal by Picatinny Arsenal for metallurgical examination. The shell was received at Watertown Arsenal in the inert condition without a fuze. The results of the Complete round examination are contained Picatinny Arsenal Technical Report No. 1837 and Frankford Arsenal ORD Lab. Report No. MR-486. Fragmentation characteristics of gray cast iron have been studied at Aberdeen Proving Ground in tests of Soviet 82MM and 120MM cast iron mortar shell. The shell was visually examined and photographed, after which a dimensioned drawing was prepared. Hardness readings were obtained on a longitudinal section of the shell body that was later hot acid etched and photographed. Specimens were obtained for chemical analysis, microscopic examination, tensile tests, and V-notch Charpy impact tests.".
