"This report is a summary of the activities conducted under Task 3, Development and Design of Telemetering Equipment, of the XAAM-N-2 Sparrow Pilotless Aircraft development program. ... Three groups of missiles, which are to be built and test flown ... are to be equipped with a variety of types of control systems and are intended to provide aerodynamic and control system performance data. These results will be used to confirm earlier work and to provide data for subsequent designs. ... Guidance is to originate at the fighter aircraft. The fighter equipment has been designated AN/APQ-36 Radar Set and is to include guidance controls, acquisition and tracking radar, computers, and pilot indicators. ... In order to obtain flight-test data, a telemetering system is included in the missiles in the space assigned to the war head and fuze of the final weapon. Equipment located at the launching site receives and records the telemetered signal ... for subsequent reduction and evaluation. In Task 3 available components of this system were investigated and development and design of equipment not available was accomplished.
