From 1996 annual command history's preface: This installation history covers a period of dynamic change at Fort Carson. Dealing with the inherent upheaval, and adjustment associated with the departure of the 4th Infantry Division, arrival of the Third Armored Cavalry Regiment, centralization of such activities as the FAO, DCP, and the organization of directories and divisions installation-wide. Such dynamic change will likely be the norm for the foreseeable future as our armed forces continue to adapt to a role changing from Cold-War concerns to Operations Other Than War (OOTW), the changing face of NATO, and a greater emphasis on peace-keeping actions all over the world. This is precisely why an Installation History is so important. Only by accurately recording the facts, circumstances and resultant changes at the time they occur, can we ensure that future generations will give our decisions and actions the credit they deserve.
