This paper, being delivered before The Battleground Historical Society, at Freehold, New Jersey, on the 194th anniversary of the Battle of Monmouth, has the following objective. It is to present documented evidence showing that the person buried beneath the Molly Pitcher monument at Carlisle, Pennsylvania, is indeed the heroine of Monmouth, but that she has been incorrectly identified as Mary Ludwig, and incorrectly identified as the wife of John Casper Hays. To this end, the following Molly Pitcher chronology is given.
