From 1969 annual historical supplement of the U.S. Army Training Center, Infantry: Mission - To develop a disciplined, highly motivated soldier who is qualified in his basic weapon, physically conditioned and drilled in the fundamentals of soldiery. From Organization (page 5): The United States Army Training Center, Infantry was formed on 15 September 1965 pursuant to General Order 298, dated 23 September 1965, Headquarters, Third United States Army. The initial organization of the USATC, Infantry required the formation of three training brigades consisting of twelve battalions and sixty training companies. Prior to the final organization of the training center, a two brigade concept was developed with ten battalions and fifty training companies. However, in March 1966, a 3d Brigade was activated and subsequently inactivated on 17 November 1967.
