From Chapter I, Introduction, A Command Overview, Structure: Since its redesignation on 1 July 1976 from the Research, Development and Engineering (RD&E) Directorate within the US Army Tank-Automotive Command (TACOM) to a separate command, the US Army Tank-Automotive Research and Development Command (TARADCOM) has maintained the basic approved provisional sturcture established by the TACOM Army Materiel Acquisition Review Committee (AMARC). The committee was established to organize the TACOM logistic, and research and development (R&D) missions into two independent organizations.
