From Chapter I, Introduction - A Command Overview, Structure: Fiscal Year (FY) 1977 marked the first full year in which the command operated under its designated as the US Army Tank-Automotive Materiel Readiness Command (TARCOM) and its 35th year as a tank-automotive organization. Until 1 July 1976, the organization was identified as the US Army Tank-Automotive Command (TACOM). On that date, as a result of the August 1974 Army Materiel Acquisition Review Committee (AMARC) recommendations, the TACOM was realigned and its research and development engineering functions were separated from its logistics and readiness operations.
