From cover letter: The Iowa National Guard is fully engaged in the Global War on Terrorism. Large percentages of our Citizen-Soldiers have served on federal active duty supporting these worldwide contingency operations since 9/11. Most have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Over 2,900 Iowa Guard Soldiers and Airmen are currently serving on federal active duty around the world. This number includes our 2nd Brigade Combat Team 34th Infantry Division that is serving with distinction in Afghanistan.
