From 1978 annual historical summary's Preface: This was the fiscal year which saw the United States Army Electronics Command (ECOM) pass into history. On 3 January 1978 the curtain rang down on the seventeen-year existence of the Command. But the communications-electronics mission of the United States Army continued without interruption in the configuration of two new commands located at Fort Monmouth. Under the Army Materiel Acquisition Review Committee (AMARC) concept of separation of the development and the materiel readiness missions, Communications and Electronics Materiel Readiness Command (CERCOM) and Communications Research and Development Command (CORADCOM) were born. -- From Chapter I. Command Overview (page 1): Quite obviously the major event of FY 78 was the birth of the Communications-Electronics Materiel Readiness Command (CERCOM) at ceremonies conducted in the Ft. Monmouth Field House on 3 January 1978.
