This monograph has been prepared with the aim to show the evolution of the organization and procedures employed by the Chief of Transportation in fulfilling his supply responsibilities, and to discuss the principal difficulties which were encountered and the extent to which they were overcome. The emphasis naturally has been placed upon the period of hostilities, but certain developments since VJ-Day have been included. Table of contents: responsibilities and organization; the supply program; contracting procedures; procurement problems; production control; inspection, acceptance, delivery; maintenance of equipment; technological progress; storage and stock control; redistribution and disposal of property; readjustment of contracts and prices; and conclusions. Also included in this document are appendices I-XXI and a list of statistical tables.
