This monograph has been prepared with the aim to show the evolution of the organization and procedures employed by the Chief of Transportation in fulfilling his supply responsibilities, and to discuss the principal difficulties which were encountered and the extent to which they were overcome. The emphasis naturally has been placed upon the period of hostilities, but certain developments since VJ-Day have been included.
