The first part of the Air Signal Report of operations on the continent was issued under the title "Air Signals Report Operation Neptune-Planning and Assault Phase", and covered the period from the commencement of the planning stage until the completion of the assault on the beaches. This second and final part completes the report covering the period from the end of the assault on the beaches through VE day to the cessation of combined command. The first part was issued in sections as and when material was available for each section. This second and final part is being issued complete. Sections include: introduction; commissioned officers-establishments/T.O. and personnel; plans; provision of communications for H.Q. A.E.A.F. and later air staff S.H.A.E.F.; the allocation of frequencies for air signals use; A.D.L.S. (Air Dispatch Letter Service); signals security; telephone and telegraph traffic problems; use of V.H.F. R/T duplex (racehorse) circuits; use of American frequency modulated V.H.F. communication equipment; development and use of no. 1 M.R.C.U. using army type 10 communication equipment (Mobile Radio Communications Unit); provision of communications for air transport services and flying control organizations; provision of communications for movement liaison services; formation of the first tactical air force; work of the S.H.A.E.F. mission- France; air formation signals organization; long distance continental landline communications; cross channel communications; landlines for ground based R.C.M. (80 wing); airborne radar; ground radar; R.C.M. (radio counter measures); R.N.A. (radar navigational aid systems); landlines for R.N.A.; and I.F.F.
