This monograph is intended to summarize the movement of Army personnel in organized parties of 40 or more (50 or more prior to January 1943) from 1 December 1941 to 31 August 1945. It will also trace the major developments in procedures for handling such movements from the organization of the Transportation Corps and its Traffic Control Division in March 1942 to the end of active warfare in August 1945. Chapters include information on statistics, procedures at Washington, equipment- making much of too little, the troop train, troop train subsistence, and redeployment and demobilization. Such topics as over-all statistics of Army inland passenger transportation, details in connection with the procurement of commercial transportation, authorized accommodations, and the duties of local transportation officers have been discussed in a monograph entitled "Inland Transportation of Individuals for the Army During World War II," June 1945.
