Immediately after the arrival of the 338th Infantry Division Headquarters on the east bank of the Rhine River a command post was established in the government offices and the reorganization of the scattered units was begun. All members of the division were rallied by the IIa (1st-Adjutant), Major Friessland, and committed for the defense of the river banks on both sides of the destroyed bridge of Oberkassel--Duesseldorf. An immediate enemy thrust across the Rhine was expected as they must certainly have been informed regarding the insufficient combat strength of the division. Document details the situation, reorganization, incorporation of the Volkssturm (People's Militia), armament and equipment, air forces, enemy intelligence service and fire direction, German intelligence service and reconnaissance patrols, cooperation with civil authorities, and the 338th Infantry Division fights in the southern Ruhr Pocket.
