On 12 August 1945, Lt Gen W. D. Styer, Commanding General, United States Army Forces Western Pacific, assigned to the Replacement Command, AFWESPAC, the mission of receiving, processing, entertaining, and finally returning to their homes American and allied personnel, military and civilian, including women and children, who were to be recovered from Japanese prison camps. The Replacement Command welcomed the opportunity to render grateful service to those who have fought and suffered for our cause. This album is a pictorial history prepared by the Replacement Command, AFWESPAC, to make a permanent photographic record of facilities, of procedures, of installations, and especially of men, women and children, military and civilian, who were recovered from Japanese Prisoner of War and Internment Camps after the unconditional surrender of Japan, from the time of their arrival in Manila, P. I., until they set forth on their journeys to their homelands and their loved ones. Subject headings include first arrivals, processing, depot staffs, visitors, who's who in the depots, and sidelights.
