In this April 2015 interview, MAJ Laura Jane Freeland, US Army, Logistics; discusses her deployment to Afghanistan as a company commander for 4th Battalion, 159 Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st in 2008 through 2009 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). MAJ Freeland talks about her missions of manning forward area refueling points; managing the ammunition, maintaining the small vehicle fleet, and managing a supply activity. She describes living conditions and daily operations. She shares how she was able to boost morale for her Soldiers and discusses the handoff to the incoming brigade. MAJ Freeland closes her interview by stating, " We all knew what the brigade's mission was, we all knew what, as battalions, that we needed to do to support that mission, but I'm not sure we all had a great understanding of what our contribution was to the greater strategic mission within OEF. So, I'd probably say that, at least from a leadership perspective, nesting that a little bit better would probably be a little bit more helpful."
