In this September 2014 interview, MAJ Jeremy Zollin, US Army, Armor, discusses his deployment to Iraq as an executive officer for 3-67th Armor, 4th Brigade, 4th ID in 2005 through 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). MAJ Zollin talks about his missions of manning a checkpoint and route security and clearance. He describes working with the Iraqi security forces and talks about the enemy transition to explosively formed penetrators (EFPs). He discusses some challenges he faced and shares how his Soldier's morale was up and down. He shares a specific memory of the talking with another Soldier about the problems with the war in Iraq and their solutions and discusses the handoff to the incoming brigade. MAJ Zollin closes his interview by stating, "We fought 12 one-year, very individualistic wars, but I wouldn't even say that. We fought 12 holding engagements. We were just there for a year to get out. Nobody actually wanted to win that war in that year. They tried, but then I've already said the problem is that by the time they did, they were gone."
