In this February 2013 interview, MAJ Thomas R. Carl III, US Army, Air Defense Artillery (ADA); discusses his deployment to Afghanistan as a battalion mentor for a military transition team (MiTT) in 2007 through 2008 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OIF). MAJ Carl talks about his pre-deployment training at Fort Riley and describes the makeup of his MiTT. He details a typical day and talks about moving around from Spinboldak, Zabul and Kandahar Proper throughout his deployment. MAJ Carl describes some difficult challenges he overcame and he closes his interview by stating, "The lesson learned for me is specifically during that second job is knowing who you work for, and how to get what you want out of them without having them feel like you're disrespecting them."
