Major Jim Brown has been on two deployments in support of Global War on Terror (GWOT): one to Iraq and one to Afghanistan. In this December 2012 interview, MAJ Jim Brown, US Army, Medical Corps; discusses his second GWOT deployment when he went to Afghanistan as a brigade regimental surgeon in 2010 through 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). MAJ Brown talks about his first few days in country with getting set up at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Lagman. He describes his living conditions in sharing a room with a chaplain. He details a typical day and shares his day-to-day missions. He describes some challenges he faced with a shortage of blood supply and details the process for how they overcame that challenge. MAJ Brown shares his deployment successes and closes his interview by stating, "I think we left some practices in place and we certainly shared those with our replacements that hopefully we were able to carry forward as a success and hopefully be better refined in areas that we might have missed."
