In this February 2013 interview, MAJ Charles Azotea, US Army, Military Intelligence discusses his deployment to Afghanistan as a liaison officer, Deputy G2 and KIFC Deputy Director with the 6th UK in preparation for the handover to the 10th Mountain in 2010 through 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). MAJ Azotea talks about his initial mission of expanding the RC-South headquarters. He describes working with the British and other coalition partners and talks working with the Department of State. He discusses some challenges he faced and shares how his responsibilities changed when he became the KIFC battle major. He shares a specific memory of attending too many ramp ceremonies and discusses his move to RC-North. MAJ Azotea closes his interview by stating, "I would say the cultural arrogance of the US, in particular our military. What I mean by that is how we think we know it all and best. We've got a lot to learn from our allies and our coalition partners with regards to leaning multiple languages, acculturation, and really finding out what it is that the people that we are supposedly there to assist want and how they want it as opposed to us "providing" what we think they want."
