In this November 2012 interview, MAJ Thomas Piazze, US Army, Engineer; discusses his deployment to Afghanistan as a project engineer for the United States Army Corps of Engineer (USACE) in 2006 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). MAJ Piazze details a typical day and describes his project engineering missions with building an Afghanistan National Army (ANA) brigade facility. He describes his role through the project of how he provided oversight through project schedule and payments. He talks about living on the project site and working alongside of the Navy. He describes the daily interaction he had with the contractors and discusses some labor and material issues with getting cement into country. MAJ Piazze details his deployment success of learning to manage a project and interacting with the contactors and closes his interview by discussing the need for education on managing contracts in country, "I think that needs to be taught and understood across the board and down. I don't know that everyone fully understands it on all the levels, especially the people who are on the ground, the ones that actually have eyes on whatever the contract is for."
