In this interview MAJ Dennis Davis discusses his deployment to Iraq in 2006 right before the beginning of the surge as the assistant operations officer air (AS3 Air) before he became the battalion maintenance officer (BMO) later on in the deployment. MAJ Davis discusses his pre-deployment training and how unique it was in that his unit had the opportunity to train regular major combat operations (MCO) but also counterinsurgency (COIN) operations prior to going overseas. MAJ Davis describes challenges the unit faced while on ground in Sinjar and then when they moved to the more volatile area of Ramadi where they worked with the Marines. MAJ Davis concludes his interview by stating that when you deploy, those little things that really would bug you and stress you out in the garrison environment just don't matter once you're deployed.
