In this interview, CPT Daniel Smit, US Army, Infantry; discusses his deployment to Iraq as a security force commander for 3-7th Infantry; 4th Brigade; 3rd Infantry Division (ID) in 2010 through 2011 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). MAJ Smit talks about his mission of manning the entry control points and talks about working alongside of other platoons for that mission. He describes how he was able to boost morale for his Soldiers and discusses some difficult challenges he had to overcome. He talks about changing out of command nine months into his deployment and talks about how his Soldiers adjusted. He compares all of his deployment and shares some of his deployment successes. CPT Smit closes his interview by stating, "As long as you keep on working hard and be professional then it is going to work out."
