CH (MAJ) Masaki Nakazono served as chaplain with the 1st Battalion, 13th Armor, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division (AD) in various locations in Iraq during the initial invasion in 2003 and again as chaplain with 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment in Hit and Anbar Province, Iraq during 2006 and 2007, both in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In this April 2012 interview, CH Nakazono discusses his decision to take his ministry to the Army, some of the challenges of Army ministry, and particularly the challenge of casualties and memorial services. CH Nakazono concludes his interview with the observation, "I don't know if it's captured on here during our conversation, but you brought up leadership and influence, and I think that is key for what we do. The Army talks about everybody being a leader, from the most senior levels to the most junior levels, and I believe that as service members we should look at our duties and our responsibilities and realize that what we do has impact and influence. Not just within our small sphere, but it's global."
