MAJ Robert Sturdivant served as assistant comptroller with the in Djbouti during 2006 and as the night battle major with the 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) (ESC) at Joint Base Balad (JBB), Iraq during 2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In this April 2012 interview, MAJ Sturdivant describes in detail the duties of an assistant comptroller, discusses the nature of the US mission in Djibouti, and briefly talks about the changes he's noticed over his career and particularly between Desert Storm/Desert Shield and OIF. MAJ Sturdivant concludes his interview with the observation, "I think we do a very good job at what we do. There is always the 'hurry up and wait.' You hurry and rush to get somewhere but then you have to wait to figure out where to go next. There are a lot of moving pieces, and I think we do it pretty well as far as getting the men and equipment to arrive at the same place at the exact time to move out to wherever you have to go to do your mission."
