In this interview, MAJ Min Choi, US Army, Infantry; discusses his first deployment to Iraq as a company commander in 2006 through 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). MAJ Choi talks about his six months of pre-deployment and describes how it prepared him for deployment. He identifies his role in securing the sector and describes some of the issues of the locals. He describes his role in some of the patrols that he went on and talks about working alongside of the Iraqi Army. He details a typical day and talks about some difficult challenges that he overcame. MAJ Choi recalls a specific memory and closes his interview by stating, "When we clearly understand the people, understand their culture and just look at it from their view, we then begin to see a more clear picture on why things happen."
