In this interview, MAJ James Palmer, US Army, Engineer; discusses his deployment to Afghanistan as a regimental engineer for 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment in 2010 through 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). MAJ Palmer talks about his missions of tracking and managing all construction in his battlespace, and he also talks about how he tracked and advised the commander on matters concerning route clearance and improvised explosive device (IED) defeat. He describes how he got put in charge of the bridge reconstruction mission and talks about his process of designing bridges. He describes his successes and talks about the relationship with his colonel. MAJ Palmer shares a comical memory and closes his interview by stating, "You can go through all the deployment training you want and it just seems like a single event."
