In this interview, MAJ Peter Perzel, US Army, Adjutant General; discusses his two deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq as a postal commander and brigade personnel officer (S1) for 510th Personnel Services Battalion (PSB) in 2005 through 2006 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and 2008 and 2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). MAJ Perzel talks about his first deployment to Afghanistan with not having any pre-deployment training and taking over a company that had some morale issues. He describes the challenges of jumping into a role where his Soldiers needed a morale boost. He describes how he was able to boost morale for his Soldiers through Operation Sleigh Ride and describes that particular operation in detail. MAJ Perzel closes his interview by stating, "We need to take a closer look at our awards system and how we recognize people."
